Collector of Boyds Bears First Editions

This is a great Boyds Bears website for the SERIOUS Boyds collector. We have many different resin categories to choose from.

And the great news is… Ninety-Eight percent (98%) of ALL products on this site are 1E's or 1 st Editions. These are popular pieces to collect and own. The 1 st editions are more difficult to locate, as they are the first pieces long time collectors try to purchase. As each piece becomes older and is finally retired, the 1 st editions become even more valuable to many collectors. First Edition boxes always have a red dot on the bottom. (Except for the very early years.)

Check information on the bottom of each resin piece…

Did you know that the numbers written in ink on the bottom of your resins are the edition numbers? This is very important information if you are a serious collector.

The first piece made in every series is marked as a 1E/1 (first edition/first piece), then 1E/2 (first edition/second piece), then 1E/3 (first edition/third piece), etc. At the end of the first edition, they start over again with second edition 2E/1, 2E/2, 2E/3, then on to the third edition, etc. For example…if your resin piece has 1E/100 written on the bottom, it is the 100th piece in the 1st edition. If it says 7E/3,001 it is the 3,001st piece in the 7th edition. The edition can go as high as needed. There could be a 76E/300 for example.

Of course, there is always an exception to the rule. There are the highly sought after Limited Edition pieces. Instead of seeing 1E/300 you will see a bottom stamp saying Limited Edition/1, 2, or 3 etc. A Limited Edition piece can have any number as decided on by the Boyds Company. Could be 2,000, 5,000 or 10,000 pieces made for nationwide distribution. Needless to say these special pieces are always VERY popular and sell out quickly.

There are also other Special Event pieces that are released each year. Some of these would be for Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Halloween, etc. Special Event will be stamped on the bottom… usually without editions or numbers. Only a few are made each year and they always retire the same year they are issued.

Several special pieces are released throughout the year, for example, SYN, GCC, or QVC, sometimes in partnership with other companies such as Longaberger Baskets.

Be aware of fakes! When shopping for Boyds Bears resin figurines, always look for the symbol of authenticity. On the Bearstones you will find a paw print, Folkstones have a star, Dollstones have a shoe imprint, and on Santa Bears there is a tree imprint. It is fun to search for the hidden symbol on each piece.
